The ArtFusion Experiment documentary focuses on the history of the organization. Tattoo Artists are being recognized for the first time as being fine artists. The Documentary briefly shares the background of the art of tattoo and the mindset of the tattoo artist. Until now, never has the tattoo industry been looked upon as possessing the ability to have an influence on the world of fine art.
Meet the founders of The ArtFusion Experiment, Paul Booth (New York), Filip Leu (Switzerland) and Titine Leu (Switzerland) and experience the journey these world famous tattoo artists took to gain them recognition and acceptance in the fine art world.
The birth of ArtFusion began when Ryan Martinie, the bassist of the heavy metal act, Mudvayne, was the first person to have two tattoo artists work on him simultaneously. During the “Tattoo The Earth” rock tour, Paul Booth and Filip Leu tattooed Ryan.
Paul and Filip went to work on Ryan without a plan as to what they were going to tattoo. Thus, the art of working together and mixing their styles, skills and techniques inspired them to expand on this experience of working collaboratively.
It is now 2007 and since its inception in 2001, ArtFusion Experiment is now boasting a membership of over 400 tattoo artists from around the globe who transfer their “vision of art” from the skin to a canvas. The organization serves as a charitable movement with plans of holding an auction to sell all 480 pieces of work. All the money raised from the sale of these works will be donated to the International Child Art Foundation.
ArtFusion and its philosophy of “forcing” artists to work collaboratively, much like musicians playing in ensemble, is being looked upon as having the influence of changing the way art is taught in schools and universities.
ArtFusion Experiment proves artists working together in a collaborative fashion do not need to speak the same language…their individual art styles and techniques speak to one another. Art serves as the universal language.
Throughout the documentary, viewers will hear artists from all over the world speaking about their philosophies of working as a tattoo artist and how their particular art styles translate to canvas.
